Winter wheat production in Northwest region

 Winter wheat 

Washington planted 1.75 million acres of winter wheat in 2019, up 50,000 acres from 2018. Harvested area, at 1.70 million acres, is up 50,000 acres from 2018. Winter wheat production in Washington is 119 million bushels, down 5 percent from last year with yield estimated at 70.0 bushels per acre, down 6.0 bushels per acre from 2018.  Idaho planted 730,000 acres of winter wheat in 2019, up 10,000 acres from 2018. Harvested area, at 680,000 acres, is unchanged from 2018. Winter wheat production in Idaho is 59.2 million bushels, down 3 percent from last year with yield estimated at 87.0 bushels per acre, down 3.0 bushels per acre from 2018. Oregon planted 740,000 acres of winter wheat in 2019, up 20,000 acres from 2018. Harvested area, at 730,000 acres, is up 35,000 acres from 2018. Winter wheat production in Oregon is 49.6 million bushels, up 7 percent from last year with yield estimated at 68.0 bushels per acre, up 1.0 bushel per acre from 2018.

Spring wheat 

Washington planted 510,000 acres of spring wheat in 2019, down 10,000 acres from 2018. Harvested area, at 505,000 acres, is down 10,000 acres from 2018. Spring wheat production in Washington is 23.7 million bushels, down 15 percent from last year with yield estimated at 47.0 bushels per acre, down 7.0 bushels per acre from 2018.  Idaho planted 460,000 acres of spring wheat in 2019, unchanged from 2018. Harvested area, at 445,000 acres, is unchanged from 2018. Spring wheat production in Idaho is 39.6 million bushels, down 6 percent from last year with yield estimated at 89.0 bushels per acre, down 6.0 bushels per acre from 2018.

Barley 

Washington planted 95,000 acres of barley in 2019, up 10,000 acres from 2018. Harvested area, at 85,000 acres, is up 18,000 acres from 2018. Barley production in Washington is 5.95 million bushels, up 22 percent from last year with yield estimated at 70.0 bushels per acre, down 3.0 bushels per acre from 2018. Idaho planted 540,000 acres of barley in 2019, down 10,000 acres from 2018. Harvested area, at 520,000 acres, is down 10,000 acres from 2018. Barley production in Idaho is 54.6 million bushels, up 2 percent from last year with yield estimated at 105.0 bushels per acre, up 4.0 bushels per acre from 2018. Oregon planted 40,000 acres of barley in 2019, down 3,000 acres from 2018. Harvested area, at 32,000 acres, is up 6,000 acres from 2018. Barley production in Oregon is 2.50 million bushels, up 81 percent from last year with yield estimated at 78.0 bushels per acre, up 25.0 bushels per acre from 2018.
