The corn, soybean, and wheat markets have been more active in 2026 than the previous two years. In 2024 and 2025, you did not really have a good opportunity to sell ahead at an acceptable profit. But, in 2026, farmers have had the opportunity to sell new-crop ahead, with December corn over $5 per bushel; November soybeans at over $12 per bushel; and wheat at over $7 per bushel.
The old rule of “When you are planting, you should be selling” worked again in 2026. For most producers, the question was not if you should sell, but the percentage of your crop you should sell. Farmers who used the spring rally to sell cash crops also made the right decision. I think the timing of the low in the cash corn market in 2026 could be similar to the last two years, but potentially a lot different for the soybean and wheat markets, which I think put in early seasonal lows in 2026.
