Two high school seniors have been selected to represent Washington wheat farmers and will serve as the Washington Wheat Ambassadors for the upcoming year. Tate Nonnemacher and Cadence Zellmer, both of Davenport, were selected after an initial written application process that included submitting a short introductory video.
Nonnemacher and Zellmer will each be giving a speech at the upcoming Washington Association of Wheat Growers Annual Banquet on Dec. 1 in Spokane during the Tri-State Grain Growers Convention. The seniors will be judged on the quality of their presentation and will be awarded scholarships funded by the Washington Wheat Foundation of $5,000 and $4,500. Nonnemacher and Zellmer will represent Washington wheat farmers at various civic and community events and will also participate in WAWG advocacy meetings with state agencies and legislators.
Tate Nonnemacher
Nonnemacher is the son of Trea and Casey Nonnemacher. A student of Davenport High School, Tate has maintained a strong grade point average, while taking a rigorous course load. The Nonnemacher Family operates a multi-generation wheat farm in Lincoln County, where Tate has been very active. In addition to farm activities, Tate is active in FFA, FBLA, National Honor Society and football. He also has a passion for his breeding and market hog projects, outdoor activities and numerous community service opportunities. Tate plans to study agronomy at a four-year university and maintain the rural lifestyle and pursue a lifelong career in agriculture.
Cadence Zellmer
Zellmer is the daughter of Kyle and Kristin Zellmer and their multi-generation family farm is located in Lincoln County. Cadence is active in the farm operation and has a passion for agriculture. She has maintained a strong grade point average at Davenport High School, where she excels in and out of the classroom. Cadence is captain of the soccer and softball teams and demonstrates dedication to her community through acts of service. Her leadership roles include serving as an officer in FFA and FBLA and is a member of the National Honor Society. Cadence plans to become a registered nurse with a focus on rural healthcare.
