WAWG was proud to welcome Alexis Taylor (in green), USDA Deputy Under Secretary, to Ritzville to discuss trade, TPP and other issues important to Washington wheat farmers.
In a roundtable discussion earlier this week, USDA Deputy Under Secretary Alexis Taylor met with a group of wheat growers in Ritzville to discuss trade and other programs. As deputy under secretary, Taylor oversees the Foreign Ag Service, Farm Service Agency and Risk Management Agency.
Taylor emphasized the importance of the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP), explaining it is their number one priority and daily campaigns are underway. She stated that countries like Vietnam and Malaysia are vital markets with young demographics and a growing middle class and TPP will put the U.S. on a even playing field with other countries.
Other topics discussed included market potential in Cuba, conservation compliance, FSA software and
insurance programs. Taylor also expects hearings to be held in the near future as preparations are made for the 2018 Farm Bill.
