County updates from March state board meeting

County reports from yesterday’s state board meeting in Ritzville:

Adams-So far, spring has been very good. Lots of rain and crops look good. Spring crops are slowly being put in.

Aston-There’s been a little bit of spring wheat seeded. Winter wheat looks good.

Benton-DNS planting is in full swing. Spring wheat is coming up. It’s been wet, a far cry from last year at this time.

Douglas-Not much stirring right now. The snow just came off. Tractors are out of the shed and running, but it’s too wet to take them anywhere.

Franklin-Lots of action. Lots of spraying going on. We’ve had lots of rain this month.

Grant-We’ve had just under 2 inches of rain this month. We are going to start spraying stubble in a week or so.

Lincoln-Wheat looks good. Still cold and wet, so there’s not much taking place. There’s good moisture in the subsoil.

Spokane-Good moisture. The soil profile is near capacity. We’ve had close to 2 inches of rain this month. Not much activity taking place in the fields. We’ve heard of rust concerns in other counties, so we are scouting fields. If this cool, wet spring persists, rust could be a concern.

Walla Walla-There’s been a fair amount of spraying being done. Wheat looks good. Some areas where winter wheat didn’t come in in the fall are filling in.

Whitman-We had snow last night, the first snow of 2016. Some top dressing going on. Winter wheat looks good acres the county.
