Conservation Coordinator, Washington Association of Wheat Growers
Recently, Karli Bugni (left), NRCS-WA Central Area Outreach Coordinator and Washington Cattlemen’s Association, and I completed our first roadshow to visit growers and cattlemen. We started outside of Benge where we toured Bridget and Paul Coon’s cattle operation and discussed programs and opportunities available to cattlemen. Bridget also currently serves as the vice president of the Washington Farm Bureau and provided valuable feedback on her experiences with the organization dealing with conservation programs and feedback she has gathered from cattlemen and wheat growers.
We then continued to St. John where we met with staff at the Rock Lake Conservation District and then visited John Schuster’s operation and discussed his involvement in the FLOURISH program and conservation practices he has completed over the years. We wrapped up the first day visiting the state office. Then, during the second day, we visited Chad and Jon Denny of Land and Livestock in Fairfield and Scott and Laurie Roecks of SLR Farms outside of Rosalia.
