Crop progress report 4/2: Winter lingered in Washington state

From NASS

There were 4.4 days suitable for field work last week. Pasture and range conditions were reported to be 1% very poor, 12% poor, 33% fair, 52% good, and 2% excellent. A low temperature of 27 degrees Fahrenheit was reported in the northeast region, while a high of 69 degrees was reported in central Washington. Statewide temperature differentials ranged from 1 degree below normal to 6 degrees above normal. Reports indicated that winter was still around, with much of the state still too wet for field work. Only a few areas completed some field work with the continual rains, such as chopping corn stalks. Stripe rust was a concern as it appeared in fields and potentially damaged winter wheat. Some concern remained with snow mold in winter wheat fields. Overall, winter wheat appeared to be doing well. Cattle were still on feed. Orchards were pruned. Most of Washington was unable to do any significant work due to the excess moisture, which limited the types of work available to operations. Many were looking forward to drier conditions.
